Evidence-based lineage research

Explore traditions and outlier lineages without inventing certainty.

A future ChatGPT research option can compare documented family relationships, geographic migration, names, cited historical sources, and patron-provided DNA summaries. It can surface possible connections to scriptural traditions—including traditions associated with the tribes of Israel—or other unusual lineage hypotheses.

Scientific boundaryNeither DNA markers nor surnames can precisely establish descent from a specific biblical tribe. Any tribal association must be labeled as documented tradition, historical hypothesis, genetic inference, or unsupported speculation.
Research output standard
  • Documented: supported by primary genealogical records
  • Corroborated: multiple credible secondary sources
  • Inferred: plausible genetic, geographic, or historical pattern
  • Traditional: scriptural, cultural, or family tradition
  • Speculative: insufficient evidence for a lineage claim
Structured findings can be staged as key=value placement suggestions and are applied only after patron review. Live ChatGPT research requires a separately configured connection and explicit consent for DNA data.

Distinct religious-lineage chart

Prophets and apostles across dispensations

Designate an ancestor recorded as a prophet or apostle, select the descendant, and FamilyLink will trace only continuous parent-to-child links already present in the tree.

Claims of descent from Jesus ChristNo historically verifiable parent-to-child genealogy establishes descendants of Jesus Christ. Any such entry is separated from verified lineage and labeled as an unverified religious tradition or conspiracy theory—not fact.

Create a highlighted lineage record

No prophetic or apostolic lineage chart has been created.Add only sourced claims and complete parent-to-child links.

Consent-controlled family health history

Genetic Marker Traits Inheritance and Attributes to Descendants from Ancestors

Record medical conditions, mental-health diagnoses, behavioral traits and family recollections for ancestors or living relatives. A family member may contribute a claim without a medical professional, but the record always shows its source and verification status.

Medical boundaryFamily-reported claims are not diagnoses. Shared genes, environment, experience and behavior may all affect health. Only a qualified clinician can diagnose a person or interpret inherited risk.

Not medical advice: Printed and exported records may contain unverified family claims. They do not establish a diagnosis or inherited risk. Consult a licensed clinician or genetic counselor before testing, surveillance, reproductive decisions or treatment.

Bring family trees together

Import, identify and verify a relative’s tree.

Tree names and numbers travel with FamilyLink files. Before anything is added, review possible duplicate people and choose whether to merge unique records, inspect conflicts, or replace the current working tree.

Verified member tree exchange

Share a partial family tree only after the connection is reviewed.

Members can prepare CSV, spreadsheet, GEDCOM, or patron-downloaded FamilySearch files for another verified member. A screenshot may support a review, but neither ChatGPT nor a screenshot alone proves a biological relationship.

Evidence boundary“Possible match” means records appear to describe the same or connected people. “Blood relative” requires documented parent-child links or other reliable genealogical evidence confirmed by the patron.
